Nembharat to roll out passenger KYC, other safety measures
Date: 24 Mar 2026
Against
the backdrop of rising safety concerns in India's ride-hailing ecosystem, ‘Nembharat'
is going to introduce a multi-layer safety framework aimed at securing journeys
for both passengers and driver partners across India.
The
system will make ‘Nembharat’ as the first operator in the country to verify
both sides of a booking before a trip begins, shifting safety from a
driver-only focus to shared accountability.
"Safety
in ride-hailing has largely focused on verifying the driver. We have built a
system where the passenger is equally accountable. When every booking is linked
to a verified identity, the entire journey becomes traceable and that changes
how incidents are addressed," said Kanchi Sharma, COO, World Economic
Mobility Limited (WEML).
At
the centre of the framework is a passenger KYC process that ensures every user
is verified, traceable, and linked to authenticated banking records. All rides
will follow a prepaid, cashless model, creating a documented identity trail
accessible in the event of disputes or safety incidents reported by driver
partners.
To
support real-time intervention, Nembharat will also equip vehicles with a
two-way intercom connecting both parties directly to a staffed control room
during a live ride. Where physical intervention is required, a Quick Response
Team (QRT) can be deployed. An in-app SOS feature links users to the national
emergency helpline, 112.
For
driver partners, the platform operates on a zero-commission model, mandates
identity verification at onboarding, and offers Rs 15 lakh
insurance cover to commercially registered vehicle drivers who complete its
training programme. The framework is aligned with the Motor Vehicle Aggregator
Guidelines, 2025, covering data logging, fare transparency, and insurance
mandates.
